Well, I wasn’t going to do this because it’s been talked about in so many places already but I feel like… I have to. I recently installed the new Wordpress v2.5 using the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade plugin and my God, how things have changed.
Recently I’ve posted a few critical posts about the Wordpress community so I feel like this may help set my Wordpress karma right because I’m seriously gushing with love for the new, updated, beautiful version that I’m staring at, at this very moment. I ♥ it.
I asked James a few days ago if he’d updated his site to the new Wordpress and I got a smug comment from Michael L. who said “Psssh, what’s really changed about it?” All I could tell him was “everthing.”
The entire admin interface has changed, the layout, colors, ia… just EVERYTHING… and I’ve yet to find one change that I don’t like. The colors are gorgeous, soft, blue, white and grey. Very simple, very easy to digest quickly.
I feel like I could gush for days but I won’t I’ll just say that the new text editor is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It’s so much better than the old version. I almost tore all my hair out on several occasions due to that old text editor. The media upload tools are steller, thank God for that.
For me it’s the little things that make all the difference. Now, after publishing content I get a little link that allows me to edit that content instead of having to click Manage > Posts > then find my post and click Edit.
The guys at Happy Cog are so good at this… and we’re lucky they are because had the wrong group of people gotten a hold of this overhaul and messed up the good thing that WP had going we’d have all ran for other systems. The fact that were able to take the great tool that already existed and actually enhance it without cluttering it up or making it confusing (at all) is a huge achievement and further cements my feeling that I am going to be sticking with Wordpress for a long, long, looooong time.
Eeegads… anyone remember Textpattern? Good God, what were we thinking?
